Quarter-End ECL Readiness Checklist
A practical checklist for quarter-end covering data readiness, stage movement review, scenario refresh, overlay challenge, movement analysis, and disclosure support.

Quarter-end ECL problems usually do not begin at quarter-end. They begin earlier, when the team has not tested whether the main judgement points are ready to move through the cycle. A short readiness checklist can reduce a large amount of last-minute instability.
1. Confirm data readiness
Check source extraction, key reconciliations, segment allocation, and unresolved exceptions. If the starting population is unclear, every later discussion becomes harder.
2. Review stage movement before the final pack
Do not leave SICR review until the end. Look early at unusual migrations, concentrations, watchlist exposures, restructurings, and cure cases.
3. Refresh the forward-looking view
Ensure the economic scenarios, weights, and portfolio sensitivities reflect the reporting date. If a macro update is pending, make the dependency visible.
4. Challenge overlays explicitly
List the overlays proposed, the reason each exists, the evidence supporting it, and the approval path. The goal is to avoid vague late-stage adjustments.
5. Prepare movement analysis and disclosure support
Before sign-off, confirm that the team can explain what changed in the allowance, why it changed, and how that story will appear in management review and financial statement language.
